How to Prevent Mold Growth in your Home?

Generally, the best way to prevent mold growth is to have a healthy clean up routine and find solutions to water problems that usually causes mold growth. The following are some basic steps on tips how to clean up mold and try to get rid of it:

  • The source of the water must be identified and corrected immediately for you to have control of the moisture problem.

  • You should get rid of porous materials with extensive mold growth. (e.g. drywall, carpeting, paper, and ceiling tiles)

  • All wet materials should be dried thoroughly, but if it seems to be impossible then this materials should be discarded.

  • Mold growing on wood and concrete may be cleaned. Scrub small areas with rag wetted with detergent. It is recommended that you wear rubber gloves and dust mask for jobs other than routine cleaning.

  • A bleach solution may be useful to keep mold growth under control in areas where it is almost impossible to eliminate the source of moisture. You should keep in mind though that bleach may cause eye, nose, or throat irritation so it is important to have enough fresh air while using it.

  • Gradually monitor areas with signs of moisture which may cause new mold growth. This may indicate further renovations or material removal.
